The guidance class is offered to students in 6th grade as one of their cycle classes - also known as specials. This 6th grade class is a 6 week cycle class. The class offers a structured curriculum but is also flexible to meet the changing needs of our students. The guidance class is called Passport.
The primary goal of the 6th Grade Passport Cycle Class is to help 6th grade students transition to the rigor, demands, and rewards of adolescence and middle school life. Middle school students present a unique developmental aptitude toward acquisition of skills such as early self-assessment, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and academic, social and personal goal identification. Within an open forum, workshop model, participant exchange and contribution are encouraged. Students will learn to acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills, which contribute to effective learning in school and beyond. The program engages students in activities, which provide ample rehearsal of skills and strategies, which may be employed during their years at Central Middle School, as well as later in life. The passport class is a cycle class and is built in to each student’s schedule.
