    -          Say the word outloud and write the way you say it

    -          Use commas to separate the millions and thousands periods

    -          657,329 = Six hundred fifty-seven thousand, three hundred twenty-nine

     

     

    Place Value: The PLACE a number is located

    -          Thousands place = the 3 in 43,675

     

     

    Value: the VALUE of the number (aka what it would be worth in $$)

    -          Amount the number represents

    -          The 3 in 43,675 = 3,000

     

     

    Expanded Form: Break the number apart by place value, with plus signs in between

    -          40,000+3,000+600+70+5 = 43,675

     

     

     

    Number Sentence: An equation WITH the equals sign and the answer included

     -        4x25 =100

     

    Number Expression: A number sentence (does not NEED to have the answer and equals sign)

     -       4x25

     

    Partial Products Multiplication/ Break Apart Method/ Distributive Property: Rewrite the factors broken apart by place value to create easier problems

    *********** Not to be confused with Break Apart Method when you break the number into two easier numbers to multiply by that ADDED together equal the number (yes they will be the same, but in multiplication of bigger numbers it is easier to break numbers apart by  place value

     

    Associative Property of Addition: Addends can be regrouped and the sum remains the same

    -          Who you associate with is who you hang out with: doesn’t matter which group youre currently with, all the people are your friends

    -          (4+5)+6=4+(5+6)

     

     

    Commutative Property of Addition: Numbers can be added in any order and the sum will stay the same

    -          4+5= 5+4

     

     

    Compensation Method: Adding and then using the inverse or subtracting the same number to make the sum or difference easier to find

     

     

    Identity property of Addition: anything added to 0 stays the same

     

     

    Counting On Method: Adding to the first number to make a ten, then adding continuously until you get the second number.  Add all numbers added by to get the difference.

     

     

    Inverse Operations: Operations that undo each other
